Is it possible to eat healthy during my travel vacation or work trips?  Celebrity fitness chef Jen Arricale shows us her top tips for staying on track with your fitness goals while traveling.

Here’s the video transcript answering the question, “How To Eat Healthy While Traveling On The Road”:

Today’s question comes from a frequent traveler, Ron. Ron is wondering how to eat healthy while traveling on the road. Well Ron, I can answer this question from personal experience because I travel quite a bit as well.

My first recommendation is to bring your own healthy food. The way I do this is I pack it in my carry on suitcase. I don’t even need to check a bag in to do this. What I recommend to bring is some healthy nuts, some whole vegetables, whole fruits, and some protein which I’ll talk about a minute.

On the fruits and vegetables, it’s better to bring them whole than precut, in my opinion, because it’s much easier. You’ve got your bell pepers, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes – those all travel quite well. You can also bring a bag of spinach.

On the fruits, I’m a big fan of pears, apples, and citrus fruit. Those three travel wonderfully. And again, you can just cut those all and enjoy them after you get to your destination.

The nuts should be a healthy mix of walnuts, almonds, pecans. Those obviously travel very well and are much easier than trying to bring butters. That’s when you run into a problem with security with anything that liquidity or soft.

On the protein, what I highly recommend to make this doable is to cook the protein ahead of time and bring the precooked protein with you. For example, I use egg whites a lot for protein. So I will cook my egg whites in mini batches the night before I leave, put them in little baggies, and take those with me. You can also do that with precooked chicken breast, turkey burgers, little steaks, anything like that.

You might be wondering about temperature control with those perishables. What I do is I bring one those collapsable lunch bags on the plane with me. In there I’ve got ice cubes in a baggie. Not those pre made gel ice packs, because once the gel melts down, then you have a problem going through security because it’s an unknown gel that they can’t get to. But in my ice bag trick, if the ice cubes melt by the time I get to security, I simply pour my water out. And then I’ve got solid ice and it goes through without a problem.

Well Ron, I hope this answered your question. With just a little bit of extra time the night before, you can be assured to eat healthy while traveling on the road. This is fitness chef Jen asking you to love yourself, love your life and spread it around.
